Eye Removal services
offered in Fairfield, CT
In some cases of trauma or eye disease, eye removal is the best path forward. For this highly complex procedure, you need an
outstanding surgeon, and that’s where Larissa Habib, MD, at
Northeast Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, comes in to help. To learn more about eye removal, call the Fairfield,
Connecticut, office or book an appointment using the provided scheduling link now.
Dr. Habib performs three types of eye removal
- Evisceration
Is surgery to remove the eye while leaving the scleral shell (the white portion of the eye) and the eye muscles in place. Following
evisceration, Dr. Habib places an eye implant using the scleral shell and eye muscles for support.
- Enucleation
Is surgery to remove the whole eye, including the scleral shell, but your eye muscles remain intact. After enucleation, Dr. Habib places an eye implant by suturing it to the eye muscles.
- Exenteration
Is surgery to remove the eye along with all nearby structures, including the eye muscles, eyelids, and fatty tissue. After an exenteration, you can wear an orbital prosthesis, which includes eyeglass frames with prosthetic tissue that recreates the appearance of your missing eye and surrounding tissue.
Dr. Habib has considerable experience in each type of eye removal so she can tailor each surgery to meet individual needs. She’s also an expert in the care of the anophthalmic socket, which means she can help you heal in the safest and best way following surgery.
Eye removal is a highly complex major surgery, so it’s essential to have a skilled ophthalmic surgeon perform your procedure. Dr. Habib boasts superior surgical skills, and she’s ready to discuss your eye removal options at Northeast Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons now. Book your consultation by phone today (tel:203-424-0228) or request an appointment.
ERemoval Q & a
Under what circumstances might eye removal be necessary?
Eye removal is only for situations in which you have eye trauma or eye disease that causes blindness, severe pain, or serious health risks.
At Northeast Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Dr. Habib examines your individual circumstances in great detail before recommending eye removal. Her goal is always to help you be as healthy as possible, even when you’re dealing with significant eye complications.
Which type of eye removal will I need?
The type of eye removal depends on a few factors, including the disease or trauma that led to the surgery. For example, evisceration, the simplest of the eye removal procedures, isn’t right for everyone. It may be ideal for problems restricted to the eye itself, but if you have more widespread trauma or infection, enucleation may be the right choice.
With eye cancer or severe life-threatening eye infections, Dr. Habib may recommend the most aggressive approach, exenteration,
because it removes as much surrounding tissue as possible to reduce the risk of periocular malignancy and give you the best chance of a cure.

My daughter and her dad was running late to her first appointment. I just called the office to let them know that my daughter's father was running late. I was hoping that I didn't have to reschedule the appointment. But the office was nice enough. To just push the appointment time to 2pm instead of 1pm. Thanks

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The doctor is great. Would suggest more time allocated by schedulers for doctor time etc so that the waiting time is reduced and the doctor has more breathing time.
